John Crowe, current biology major

In hot weather, Milligan students love to cool off in Buffalo Creek, which runs alongside the college’s campus. But when junior John Crowe took a dip this spring, it was in the name of science, testing for microorganisms in the water.

After presenting the research project at Milligan’s undergraduate research symposium, RISE Above, the community took notice: He was featured by WCYB and in the college’s March digital magazine.

At Milligan, students from all disciplines have a chance to get noticed and take their research to the next level, especially if they want to present or publish their work. They are paired with a faculty mentor, who helps them learn valuable research skills.

For John, those skills are invaluable for his future—he plans to become a medical doctor.
